I spent yesterday afternoon at the aptly-named "Weiners and Wine," an Memorial Day Party at my cousin J.'s winery. As promised, there were weiners. There was wine. And there were a lot of tipsy people basking in the sun.

It was glorious.

If you ever get up to the Santa Barbara are, you must go. Wine tastings are priced at $5 a flight. While my cousin J. doesn't generally produce enough bottles to participate in the tastings, the other two main winemakers - Ryan Carr (Carr wines) and Christian Garvin (Oreana) both offer a varied selection of wines that will make you weep with pleasure.

My particular favorites were Garvin's 2005 Oreana Verdehlo, which is a white wine that I've never even heard of before. He described it as "a rich honeysuckle wine...with the flavors of tropical fuit and guava. All I knew is that I had to have it. I bought a six-pack.

I adore Pinor Noir, and the 2003 Carr Pinot Noir was heavenly. Another two bottles of that.

My biggest discovery of the day - and not on the tasting flight - was Garvin's Oreana Blanc de Noirs. If you love me, you will buy me a bottle. If you want me to put out, you will buy me a case. Garvin describes it as dry, pink and thirst quenching, this wine IS summer in a bottle. I bought two bottles. One is coming to San Francisco with me to be shared with someone who loves the sparkly stuff as much as I do.

As the afternoon progressed, I snagged a seat by the side of the stage to chat with my cousin and his friends. A drunken girl stumbled over to where I sat.

Can I tell you a secret? she asked.

Sure, I replied.

She leaned in close, her wine breath hot in my ear.

You're beautiful.

She shrunk backwards, embarrassed.

I smiled. Thank you. Thank you very much.

She grinned boozily and stumbled over to the kiddy pools, where she proceeded to almost throw up.
